Ontario Immigrant Nominee
Program (OINP)

Immigration

For immigrants coming to Canada, Ontario is the most well-liked destination for arrival.

Nearly 40% of all Canadians reside in Ontario, the province with the highest population in the country. Toronto, Canada’s largest city, and Ottawa, its capital, are both located in Ontario. The most popular destination for immigrants to Canada is by far Ontario. Every year, one-third of all newcomers are welcomed in the province. Ontario’s job prospects, high income, and diversified population attracted people to settle there. In actuality, more than half of Toronto’s population is non-Canadian.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the name of Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).Through this program, potential immigrants who possess the qualifications and experience sought after by the province may be granted a provincial nomination by Ontario, following which they can submit an application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence in Canada.

An Introduction of the Ontario PNP

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), the PNP’s full name, was introduced in 2007.

The OINP’s key goals are to address talent shortages in priority industries, make it simpler to invest in Ontario, and ensure that immigrants can successfully settle and integrate into the province. The Ontario PNP was initially only permitted to nominate up to 1,000 newcomers. Currently, Ontario nominates 8,000 immigrants annually.

There are base streams and enhanced streams for immigration to Ontario. The Express Entry system is matched with the enhanced streams. Through its three primary economic class immigration programs, Canada manages applications for permanent residency using this federal immigration system.

A candidate is assigned a point score through this approach based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The top candidates are then given the opportunity to submit an application for permanent residence. An additional 600 points are awarded to those who have nominations from enhanced provincial programs, effectively ensuring that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. Through their Express Entry profile, they are also nominated.

Base streams are those that don’t comply with Express Entry’s systems. Candidates who get a provincial nomination must submit their application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) immediately.

Categories for Immigration to Ontario

If you plan to immigrate to Ontario, then you have the four categories below to choose from:

  • Human Capital Category;

  • Masters or Ph.D. Category;

Candidates who have an eligible job offer in Ontario from an employer who is prepared to nominate them fall under the employer job offer category.

Human Capital Category

Two sub-streams make up the Human Capital Category itself. The Ontario Express Entry program is one. This sub-stream’s programs are improved. They are therefore connected to the Express Entry program.

The Human Capital Category includes the following initiatives: Ontario Express Entry sub-stream
